Come and experience Liverpool’s Katumba Drumming & Movement-with a Brazilian twist! In 4 sessions, learn the basics of drumming, rhythm, technique & movement in our ‘Introduction to the Katumba Experience’ autumn classes!
Our community band ‘Katumba Bloco’ truly represents what Liverpool is about; welcoming to all, fun, colourful, and full of character – with a Brazilian spirit-and a real Brazilian as your teacher 😉
Join us for four weeks of fun and unexpected explorations on and off the drums: our Intro to the Katumba Experience will give you a taster of all the elements that are part of our Katumba life-always with the aim of supporting your wellbeing, accessible to all and loads of fun.
EveryBODY is invited – no experience necessary and complete beginners completely welcome!
Open to ALL ages (18+) with no experience needed! We are also encouraging people of different ethnicities to take part – whilst we have drummers from all over the world we always make a conscious effort to increase diversity.

INTRO TO KATUMBA DRUMMING & MOVEMENT
When: Tuesday 21st, 28th September, 5th, 12th October
Times: 6.15-7.15pm
Where: Katumba Culture Hub, Liverpool
Who: 18+
Content: the first stage of every Katumba drummer’s learning journey! A 4-week introduction to rhythm, technique, cultural influences and how our music interconnects with Afro-Brazilian movement: exploring the foundations of our vibrant style!
Cost: £44.82 / £24.30* for the whole 4-weeks (for BAME/PoC/ financial hardship scroll to the bottom) Prices includes a free pair of drumsticks!
What Do I Need: All equipment is provided (thoroughly disinfected before and after use).

Juliana Pinheiro Landim is a musician, mover and certified yoga teacher from Recife, Brazil- she’s also the Creative & Movement Director of Katumba Drumming & Movement – and our Co-Founder. Juliana’s teaching approach is one of inclusivity and accessibility so you can feel successful in YOUR body.

Do I need to attend every single session?
No, if you need to miss one of the sessions is totally fine!
I am a student – does that count as low income?
Yes, absolutely. All those who count as students/concessions are welcome to pay the low income rate. Please get in touch here.
What does ‘Intro to the Katumba Experience’ mean?
After the ‘Intro to the Katumba Experience’ you can choose to join our journey to becoming a Katumba Member
Do I need to do this course to join the band?
Yes. Unless you are already a very experienced percussionist, this is the best route for you to join the band.
By doing this course will I be in the band?
No – there are several parts to your learning journey and it will take some time before you are ready to perform as part of the band. It also depends on what drums are available. However, you will absolutely be part of our Katumba community, and we welcome everybody with open arms!
