We’ve adapted all our pre-lockdown activities (plus some new exciting extras here) to be hygienic, safe, and with secure social distancing measures in place – whilst of course keeping them fun and welcoming to all!
This includes our Beginner’s Course, open to ALL ages (18+) with no experience needed! We are encouraging people of different ethnicities to take part – whilst we have drummers from all over the world we always make a conscious effort to increase diversity.
**Low income and free spaces available for BAME/PoC**
BEGINNERS – No experience needed!
Every year we welcome an intake of beginners into our Katumba family. We’ve had loads of interest during lockdown, and we’re so excited to finally be able to welcome you into our Katumba Culture Hub for a drum, with open arms (from a distance of course!).

FAQ
I am a student – does that count as low income?
Yes, absolutely. All those who count as students/concessions are welcome to pay the low income rate. Please get in touch here.
What does Part 1 mean?
The beginners course (and Katumba learning journey as a whole) has several parts – there’s a lot to learn! Each part breaks down different areas of learning, which will become more in depth as you progress. Part 1 is the first stage of your learning journey 🙂
Do I need to do this course to join the band?
Yes. Unless you are already a very experienced percussionist, this is the best route for you to join the band.
By doing this course will I be in the band?
No – there are several parts to your learning journey and it will take some time before you are ready to perform as part of the band. It also depends on what drums are available. However, you will absolutely be part of our Katumba community, and we welcome everybody with open arms!
